Meeting and Event Programme 2018

Unless otherwise stated, all meetings will be held at Syston Rugby Club, Barkby Road, Queniborough.

Meetings start at 7:00 pm and finish at 9:00 pm.  We urge members and visitors to arrive early (6:50pm) to allow for set up of the display tables and some general chat before the meeting starts.

Bring along a tree and get advice and guidance. Good time for some last minute winter pruning and early re-potting of hardy deciduous trees.

3 Apr 2018 – Monthly Club Meeting

Accent pot making with Steve Kitchman from China Mist
Make your own accent pot under instruction from one of the UK’s premier Bonsai potters.
Also on the night – Accent Swap Shop – bring along cuttings/divisions of plans suitable for accent plantings and swap with fellow members

14 April 2018 – Members’ Open Workshop at Olly’s, Syston.

Bring along a tree and get advice and guidance. Good time for repotting pines, junipers or do some styling work on the trees collect from Pete’s Garden last year.

CLUB DISPLAY & COMPETITION at Market Bosworth Show. 10-17.00 Adm. £5.50 on day – see their website. Will need help with erecting/dismantling stand, manning the stand and bringing trees etc.

Find out about the pests and diseases that may affect your trees and how to deal with them

Bonsai Styles –
Bring along tress in varying styles for a discussion on bonsai styles and explanation on how they are developed.
Also on the night – Presentation of Club Trophy to the Winner of the Bosworth Show “ Best Bonsai as voted by the public” competition.

Junipers- pruning and styling.
Bring along Juniper bonsai for the display table

8 Sep 2018 – Members’ Open Workshop

14/15/16 Sep 2018 – Date for your Diary 

Greenwood’s Bonsai Bash, Arnold, Notts. Free 3-day event with displays, demos, food, and discounted products. Support this event, enjoy a day out, look round the nursery.

2 Oct 2018 – Monthly Club Meeting

Larch – Members “Club Tree” Project.
Style a Larch sapling (provided by the club), then work the tree and document the development over the next few years.

21 Oct 2018 – Date for your Diary

CLUB DISPLAY at Heathrow Show, Harlington, UB3 1PB. 10-16.00hrs.

As every year, the event organisers will donate any profits raised from entrance fees and catering to the Royal British Legion, so please come and support the event if you can.

Have your say on next years activities and bring ideas to meeting.


Club Quiz Night at the Rugby Club with bonsai related prices. General Knowledge quiz with a significant section of bonsai related questions. Spouses and partners are more than welcome to attend.

1. Members’ Open Workshops. Usually start at 10:00am and finish around 3:00pm. Participants need to bring their own trees, planting medium, pots, wire, tools and own LUNCH to these events. Notices with details will be circulated beforehand. It would be polite to contact the host and let them know you will be attending so they can prepare the working area and cater for drinks.
2. If you would like to host a future Members’ Workshop at your home– please let a committee member know. (Usually held on a Saturday).
3. Club Shows: Please support by noting dates and preparing trees in time. They are public events and promote our Club.
4. DON’T FORGET TO PLAN WHEN YOUR SUBS ARE DUE – Pay annually, half yearly or quarterly. Cash or cheque only.
