November Report 2022

The above picture was taken on 22 October at our last workshop of the year. On a glorious Autumn day in bright sunshine, members gathered in Syston. It was indeed a lovely day with new members keen to get some practical learning in before Winter finally arrives and everything slows down.

Our meeting on 1st November was our annual Think Tank when we plan the club’s activities for the following year and winding down after a busy year. Members for the support team, which assists with helping the club run its activities, were confirmed. We have some changes and new additions joining the team which will greatly help the club move forward with redistributing the workload at a more even level. We also had a discussion about things that worked this year and those that didn’t quite hit the mark. We try new things every year to ring the changes and prevent staleness. Some new ideas were suggested including the possibility of launching a new web site. The rest of the evening then looked at planning our programme of activities for 2023.

Deciduous trees brought to the display table were showing their Winter imagery and we assess the structure and ponder what we want to do with design and pruning for next year. For now we will start putting our trees somewhere for Winter protection whether planting into the ground, or clearing space in sheds, garages or greenhouses to house the more vulnerable in our collections, or moving to more sheltered areas in the garden and whether to fleece over to protect from frost damage. It’s time to close down for the Winter, catch up on researching and reading material, clean and sharpen our tools and contemplate the coming of Spring and the swelling of buds when we start over again.

Our December meeting in Whitwick is on 6 December when members will be having a seasonal social and drawing the end of year raffle for a maple the club purchased. Our last meeting of the year and its goodbye to the seasons of 2022 as members start turning their attention to the festive season and all that involves. And our bonsai trees are put to bed for Winter slumbering. Our Annual General Meeting takes place on 04 January 2024 in Whitwick at our new starting time of 18.30hrs.

There will not be a December report, so from all the members of Leicestershire Bonsai Club, Thank you for being blog readers and following us. Be careful and keep well from covid and other bugs and viruses that are circulating. Have a Happy Christmas and our very best wishes for the New Year.
